Flipje serves as a mascot, originally from the jam factory De Betuwe located in Tiel and later from the city of Tiel. It was conceived in 1935. In Tiel he is honored with a museum, a statue and comic strips on benches in and around the center. Tiel is also seen from the past as the Tin City.
