Flipje serves as a mascot, originally of the De Betuwe jam factory located in Tiel and later of the city of Tiel. It was conceived in 1935. In Tiel he is honored with a museum, a statue and cartoon fragments on benches in and around the center. Tiel is also seen as the Tin City from the past.
